The International Modernization Forum Will Set Up Its Headquarters in Beijing, Aiming to Promote Global Modernization Study

  According to the message of China News in Beijing on May 24 (reported by Sun Zifa), the three co-chairmen of the International Modernization Forum from Asia, Europe and America signed the Charter of International Modernization Forum dedicated to promoting global modernization study on May 24 which decides to set up the headquarters of the forum in Beijing and determines the mission of the forum to provide an open, nonprofit international academic platform, so as to promote global modernization study and world modernization process.

  With the theme of "Modernization and Human Development", the 3rd International Modernization Forum and the 17th Forum on Modernization Study in China was open in Beijing on May 24. Researcher He Chuanqi, Director of China Center for Modernization Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences and an academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, Alberto Martinelli, a Honorary Professor of the University of Milan and former Chairman of the International Social Science Council, UNESCO, and Jose A. Ocampo, a professor of the Columbia University and former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, signed the Charter of International Modernization Forum as the co-chairman of the International Modernization Forum from Asia, Europe and America at the opening ceremony.

  According to the charter signed, the International Modernization Forum will be headquartered in Beijing, China, with Academician Zhou Guangzhao, former President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a famous physicist and a founding father of "Two Bombs, One Satellite" in China as the Honorary Chairman. The secretariat is set up in the China Center for Modernization Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, responsible for daily operation of the forum.

 

  The International Modernization Forum has the following three goals: 1. To promote the development of modernization science by promoting multi-disciplinary, cross-disciplinary, international comparative and cooperative studies on modernization; 2. To bring scholars from all over the world together, establish an open international network, hold a series of conferences to communicate the latest information about modernization study, and provide services for its members; 3. To provide advice for decision makers regarding modernization strategies and policies.

  The 3rd International Modernization Forum, lasting for three days, was co-held by the China Center for Modernization Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Center for World Modernization Process, Peking University, Center for Comparative Studies of Modernization, Fudan University, Theory and Modernization Magazine in Tianjin, and Association for Modernization Study, China Society for Future Studies. Nearly 100 experts and scholars in modernization study and related areas from more than 10 countries such as the US, the UK, Japan, Italy and Russia were gathered together to discuss the relationship between modernization and human development from five aspects of education, science and technology, health, ecology and life quality. More than 80 papers were received, among which more than 40, representing the frontier level of modernization study in the world today, were finally accepted after the peer review of the academic committee.

  The International Modernization Forum is a small international academic conference series. It has been held every three years since 2013. With the theme of "Modernization and Global Change", the 1st forum released the Modernization Announcement. The 2nd forum took "Modernization and Diversity" as its theme, and established the Association for Modernization Study, China Society for Future Studies. At the 3rd forum, the Charter of International Modernization Forum was signed, making the forum management standardized and institutionalized. The 4th forum is expected to be held in Beijing in 2022, with the theme of "Innovation and Modernization".
